Newest addition to our family! Introducing....

PATCHES!
This picture and the top one are from the Humane Society webpage where we got Patches! He's a 4 yr. old Husky/Cattle Dog mix.
Our other dog recently went over to our other farm with Jeff's parents as he was chasing cars and bike riders around here pretty bad and they needed a dog over there with them so it worked out well that he'd go over there. He's got more room to roam than he knows what to do with and it doing great there. He's actually been "adopted" by our employee who lives over there (just 30 yards from Jeff's parents house) and he loves having a dog so we couldn't have asked for a better situation. We went over and stayed with Jeff's parents Tuesday & Wednesday so Ryan got to see Art (the dog) and was happy to see him. Anyhow, since Art's been gone, we knew we wanted to get another dog and decided to check out the Humane Society as they have so many animals that need good homes AND we didn't want a puppy again... been there, done that! ;) Ryan and I went last Friday to see if we found any we really liked and that didn't appear too hyper. It's pretty overwhelming visiting ALL those dogs as you just feel so bad for them and it's so loud in there with them all excited, jumping around and barking like crazy. Which is why we fell in love with Patches. He came out nicely & calm, didn't bark, and just stood there wagging his tail. When we had the gal let him out of his kennel so we could pet and visit him, he nicely walked and and sat right down so Ryan and I could pet him. He's such a love. He'd been there for 6 mons. and was dropped off there as his owners had to move and weren't able to take him with. Sad, huh? It said on his paper work that he was used to being around "stock", which is perfect with us living on a farm with cows. Plus he was used to cats, dogs and even young children! Seemed like a perfect fit and we fell in love. Since we were gone to Jeff's parents house Tuesday & Wednesday, I worked Monday and it was Easter last Sunday, we decided it was best to wait until today to get him so we could spend time with him and now he's home! He rode good in the car- I'm not sure who was more excited on the way home, Patches or Ryan! He seems to be making himself right at home and checking everything out around the yard and farm. Jeff also fell for him the minute he met him this afternoon, too. He was very proud of the choice Ryan & I made! :) He's already been trained, too, so he knows how to sit, heel, roll over, spin, & shake hands. He's so gentle, too, so when Ryan went to give him a treat today we just told him "easy" and he barely touched Ryan's hand. We hope he's around here for a long time!
Patches today on the lawn of his new home!
This was a picture I took Saturday when we went back to visit Patches, just to make sure he was the perfect fit and to make sure the workers there knew we planned to adopt him this week. I just thought this was too cute of him and Ryan looking out the window.
p.s. Here's my little plug for the Humane Society, if you are at all thinking about getting a new dog/cat, seriously consider looking there, too. They have SO many wonderful cats that I wanted to take home with me and many other adorable dogs that we looked at, too. They have so many animals that need good homes and it was so hard to only be able to take one!
